Mental Health Safety and Quality Engagement Guidelines (SQEG)
Under the Fifth National Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Plan, we are developing a guide for consumer and carers, to strengthen their role in safety and quality initiatives within mental health services.
The Mental Health Safety and Quality Engagement Guide focuses on supporting mental health consumer and carers to more effectively engage on safety and quality issues. This is where people with a lived experience can have a significant influence on strategic decision-making and in promoting systemic changes in all aspects of mental health services.
The guide provides practical information about how consumers and carers can get engaged and how to navigate the process. It also provides information for health service leaders to provide a culturally appropriate, welcoming space for a diverse range of consumer and carers.
The guide has been developed with the oversight of an Advisory Committee consisting of consumer, carers, clinicians, health service managers, and jurisdictional representatives.
We acknowledge and thank everyone who has contributed to the development of this guide through sharing their experiences as part of the interviews and group focus sessions in the national consultation, and those who agreed to have their words included throughout the guide.
The Guide is in the final stages of production and is expected to be completed by the end of 2020. Our goal is to launch the document on the Commission’s website with a user friendly format, enhanced user experience and simplified access to relevant information.
