Faith Abio
Former refugee from Kenya, now a disability support worker

Born in Kenya, Faith came to Australia as a refugee at the age of 8. She is a member of the South Australian Mental Health Commission’s Youth Community Advisory Committee and is currently studying Disability and Education at Flinders University while working as a Disability Support Worker at Life Without Barriers.
Faith applied for the Fellowship because of her life experiences. Settling into Australia proved challenging; she was required to learn a new language and culture, make new friends, and find her place in the community. During her teenage years, although Faith had settled into school, she saw that some of her peers from the same refugee camp did not have as easy a transition to life in Australia. Faith wants her involvement in the Fellowship to allow her to reach out to those who make significant decisions affecting the lives of young refugees in Australia.
