Peter currently works in child protection for families in the NT and is studying a Masters of Social Work.
Peter is originally from South Sudan. He came to Australia on 12 October 1999 as a refugee after spending much of his childhood in a refugee camp in Kenya. Like many refugees, he has experienced challenges transitioning into a new environment. Peter quickly learnt that in order to succeed he had to immerse himself with other people from all walks of life. It is this approach to life that has benefited him, including the openness and willingness to accept the past, and has enabled him to excel. Peter attained a Bachelor of Social Science from the University of South Australia and is currently studying a Masters of Social Work at Flinders University. Peter is a kind and passionate person, and believes that young people are the backbone of society and it has been his passion to work with young people and families. Peter currently works in the area of child protection for families in the NT and with people of various cultural backgrounds including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Peter has also worked as a carer for Life Without Barriers, working with people with a disability and in mental health. He has also previously been on the board of directors of Multicultural Youth SA ensuring services are delivered to young people who arrive in Australia.
