The National Mental Health Commission is pleased to be supporting Heads Up, a new campaign launched by beyondblue in conjunction with the Mentally Healthy Workplace Alliance, highlighting the importance of mental health in the workplace.

David Butt, CEO of the National Mental Health Commission says: "Workplace mental health has been a focus of the National Mental Health Commission for some time and we are delighted to see the Heads Up campaign up and running.

"The Commission set up the Mentally Healthy Workplace Alliance in 2013 because workplace mental health is such an important issue in the community. The Heads Up campaign builds on the work of the Alliance by providing people with simple, practical information to create more mentally healthy workplaces.

This is important because we know that one in five workers are likely to be experiencing a mental health condition, and almost half of Australians will experience a mental health condition in their lifetime.

In addition, we know that organisations investing in mental health are more productive, innovative and likely to recruit and retain the best and brightest people. For example, research conducted for the Mentally Healthy Workplace Alliance by PwC shows that businesses investing in mental health can expect, on average, a $2.30 return on investment for every $1 spent.

Our message to business leaders is simple. Promoting good mental health is good for business," Mr Butt said.

The Heads Up website is an online resource offering simple, practical information to create more mentally healthy workplaces including, information, interactive tools, and resources for all individuals in the workplace. A key feature of the Heads Up website is the action plan tool, which enables businesses of all sizes to develop a tailored action plan to create a more mentally healthy workplace. The Heads Up action plan tool will be available on 16 June.
