CEO Peggy Brown invited delegates at the Australian Rural and Remote Mental Health Symposium to partner with the National Mental Health Commission to “continue to advocate for improvements in service delivery, and for the other supports necessary to enable people living with mental illness to lead contributing lives, in socially and economically thriving communities.”

After noting that mental illness occurs at higher rates in regional and remote areas, Dr Brown said she planned ongoing dialogue with local practitioners, carers and consumers to build upon the recommendations of the Commission’s landmark 2014 report .

While conceding much had improved over her 30 year career she said that “much remains to be done.”

“We can only do what needs to be done by working together … so services match individual needs to enable prevention, early intervention and effective recovery."

The 8th annual ANZMH symposium was held at Kingcliff NSW on 2-4 November 2016. Dr Brown appeared via video.
