• 22 August 2025 - The National Suicide Prevention Office (NSPO) was established in January 2022 as a specialist office located within the National Mental Health Commission. The NSPO is tasked with leading a coordinated, whole-of-governments approach to suicide prevention.   

  • 3 September 2025 - The National Mental Health Commission welcomes the announcement by The Hon. Emma McBride, Assistant Minister for Mental Health and Suicide Prevention, of the appointment of Dr Alex Hains to the position of Head of the National Suicide Prevention Office (NSPO).

  • 9 October 2025 - The Commission led the development of a National Framework to guide a co-oordinated approach in Australia to mental health experiences in the context of national disasters.

  • 11 September 2025 - The National Guidelines provide a nationally consistent framework for integrating mental health and wellbeing into existing ECHCs, recognising the critical importance of the first 2,000 days of life in shaping a child’s development, health, and future outcomes.
